Romanoff's opened on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills in 1940. The restaurant was finance partly with Hollywood celebrities such as Cary Grant, Jack Warner and Robert Benchley, and it became the premier restaurant of choice for the likes of Clark Gable, Jayne Mansfield, Sophia Loren, Humphrey Bogart, Frank Sinatra, Lana Turner, Groucho Marx, Jack Benny, etc, Bogart was one of the most frequent diners and preferred the second booth from the left of the entrance. He occupied in daily when he wasn't working. Bogart always came in without a tie, but Romanoff finally was able to get him to comply and wear one.
